Dynamo Driven Accretion Discs and Dwarf Nova Eruptions
نویسنده
چکیده
We explore the consequences of a magnetic dynamo origin for the viscosity in accretion discs, for the structure and evolution of discs in dwarf nova systems. We propose that the rapid cooling that sets in at the end of a dwarf nova eruption acts to inhibit the Balbus-Hawley instability, and thereby to quench dynamo action and so reduce disc viscosity. We demonstrate that a modi ed disc instability model can reproduce the basic properties of dwarf nova eruptions, as well as some properties of quiescent discs. We also discuss some observational consequences of our model. On the dynamo driven accretion disks
We add the α− effect in the dynamo driven accretion disk model proposed by Tout & Pringle (1992), i. e., a dynamo model depends on the physical processes such as Parker instability, Balbus-Hawley instability, magnetic field reconnection and α − ω mean field dynamo as well. The α− effect in the dynamo mechanism is determined by the strength of turbulence of the accretion flow. When the turbulent...

We consider accretion onto the white dwarfs in cataclysmic variables in relation to nova eruptions, dwarf nova outbursts, hibernation and non-radial oscillations.
متن کاملOn the occurrence of dwarf nova outbursts in post novae
We show that irradiation of the accretion disc by the white dwarf limits the occurrence of dwarf nova outbursts in post nova accretion discs. After the nova explosion, the white dwarf has to cool for up to ∼ 100 yr – depending on the orbital period (i.e., disc size) and the temperature of the white dwarf after the nova-eruption – before the disc can begin producing dwarf nova outbursts. During ...
متن کاملThe behaviour of quiescent accretion discs in dwarf novae
We propose a simple explanation for the constant mean brightness observed between outbursts in dwarf novae. Secular changes in the total energy dissipation rate of the accretion disc brought about by variations in surface density, temperature and disc radius can be regulated by the gradual cooling of a small, critically-stable hot inner region. The hypothesis is supported with two-dimensional t...
متن کاملSynthetic NLTE accretion disc spectra for the dwarf nova SS Cyg during an outburst cycle
Context. Dwarf nova outbursts result from enhanced mass transport through the accretion disc of a cataclysmic variable system. Aims. We assess the question of whether these outbursts are caused by an enhanced mass transfer from the late-type main sequence star onto the white dwarf (so-called mass transfer instability model, MTI) or by a thermal instability in the accretion disc (disc instabilit...
